Melbourne ceramic coating studio

Ceramic Coating in Melbourne

Multi-year paint protection from spray-on sealant through to full Correction and Coating. All work carried out in our Cranbourne North studio.

What it is

Long-haul paint protection, properly applied

Ceramic coating is a hard, transparent layer of silica that bonds to the factory clear coat and stays put for years. Once it's on, dirt sheets off in the rain, washing is faster, and the paint resists the slow oxidation that turns a new car finish dull and chalky by year five.

Melbourne weather punishes paint. Long commutes on the M1, tar from regional driving, magpies in spring, pollen and tree sap from leafy suburbs, summer UV that fades clear coat in years, and the occasional hailstorm that sweeps through with no warning. The factory finish is the only thing standing between all of that and the colour underneath. Ceramic is what extends that finish's working life.

We run three coating tiers from a spray-on sealant ($50 as an add-on to any wash) through to a full Correction and Coating with a multi-year ceramic ($1,000 starting price). The right tier depends on your car, how long you're keeping it, and what you want the finish to look like in three years. We talk you through it before you book.

All ceramic application happens in our Cranbourne North studio. Coating isn't a service we'll do in a customer driveway because the application needs controlled lighting, controlled temperature, and zero airborne contamination to bond properly. The Cranbourne North location sits in south-east Melbourne and is within a 20-minute drive of Berwick, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Clyde North, Pakenham, Hampton Park, Beaconsfield, Officer and Frankston.

The detail

What ceramic coating actually does

It's not wax. It's not a polish. It's a chemically bonded layer that does four specific things to your factory paint.

Locks out contamination

Tar, bug guts, bird droppings and tree sap can't bond directly to the clear coat anymore. They sit on top of the ceramic layer and wash off cleanly.

Hydrophobic beading

Water beads up and rolls off instead of clinging. Rain effectively rinses the car as you drive. Drying after a wash is a five-minute job, not twenty.

UV resistance

Melbourne sun fades clear coat over years of exposure. Ceramic adds a UV-stable barrier that slows the oxidation that turns paint dull and chalky.

Deeper gloss

Light refracts cleanly through a coated surface. Colours look richer, dark cars look wetter, metallic flake actually pops. It's the look you remember from the showroom.

Who it suits

Cars that earn back the ceramic spend

Ceramic is an investment that pays off most on certain ownership patterns. Here's where we see the strongest return.

New cars

A fresh delivery is the best moment to coat. Paint is at its peak. Locking in that finish on day one means three to eight years of protected gloss before any defects have a chance to build up.

Long-hold ownership

Planning to keep the car five years or more? Ceramic is the upgrade with the longest tail. The cost amortises across the years of preserved finish, and resale paint quality is materially better.

Daily-driven prestige

European metallic finishes, dark colours, performance cars driven hard. Ceramic preserves the wet-look depth that's the reason you bought the car in the first place.

High-mileage commuters

Long M1, EastLink or Princes Highway runs every day put serious chemical and physical load on paint. Hydrophobic ceramic dramatically reduces what bonds to the surface in the first place.

Outdoor-parked cars

No garage means no shelter from UV, pollen, sap, and weather. Coating buys the protection a garage would otherwise provide and pays back across the ownership cycle.

Pre-sale prep at the high end

A car you're selling above $50k benefits visibly from a coating-tier finish. It signals "looked after" to buyers and supports the asking price on the test drive.

After the coating

What to expect, and how to keep it

A ceramic coating isn't fit-and-forget but it's close. The maintenance is simpler and less frequent than what you're probably doing now.

First two weeks

  • Avoid heavy rain for the first 24 to 48 hours where possible.
  • No washes for the first week. Let the ceramic fully cure.
  • If the car gets dirty, a light spray rinse is fine.
  • You'll notice the beading kick in within the first proper rain.

Ongoing maintenance

  • Two-bucket hand wash with pH-neutral shampoo. Twice a month is plenty.
  • No automatic brush washes. Ever. They strip the coating.
  • Yearly maintenance booking with us tops up performance and inspects for damage.
  • Bird droppings and tree sap come off easily but still wash them off the same day.

FAQs

Ceramic Coating - FAQs

How long does ceramic coating last?

Most ceramic coatings hold up between three and eight years depending on the product applied and how the car is maintained. Garage-kept cars and vehicles that get washed properly (no automatic brush washes) hold the gloss and beading longest. We talk you through which tier fits your car and your driving pattern when you book in.

Do I need paint correction before ceramic coating?

If you want the ceramic to look its best for years, yes. Coating locks in whatever is on the paint at the time of application, including swirl marks, light scratches and water spots. Our Correction & Coating package handles both stages in one booking so the ceramic is laid down on freshly corrected, perfectly clean paint.

How much does ceramic coating cost in Melbourne?

Pricing starts from $50 for a spray-on Ceramic Sealant Add-On, $300 for Paint Enhancement with a ceramic sealant, and from $1,000 for full Correction & Coating with a multi-year ceramic. Final pricing depends on vehicle size, current paint condition, and the coating tier you choose. We quote every job individually after seeing the car.

Are you mobile? Can you come to my address?

We are not a mobile ceramic coating service. Ceramic application needs a controlled environment with the right lighting, temperature, and zero airborne contamination, which is why all coating work is carried out in our Cranbourne North studio. We do offer mobile headlight restoration as a separate add-on.

How long does the application take?

A Ceramic Sealant Add-On runs alongside a regular detail and adds minimal time. Paint Enhancement with a sealant is typically a single day. Full Correction & Coating runs one to two days depending on the size and current condition of the vehicle. We confirm the exact timeline when we quote.

Can I wash my car normally after coating?

Yes, with two caveats. Skip the automatic brush washes at the local servo because they undo the work. Stick to a two-bucket hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo. Ceramic makes the wash easier because dirt sheets off rather than bonding to the paint.

What's the difference between ceramic coating and a paint sealant?

A paint sealant (including most spray-on ceramic sealants) is a thinner, easier-to-apply layer that lasts months. A true multi-year ceramic coating is a thicker, harder layer that's bonded to the clear coat in a controlled environment and lasts years. The spray sealant is great as a top-up between bigger jobs. The multi-year ceramic is the long-haul protection.

What makes a multi-year ceramic worth it over the spray-on tier?

Three things. First, the prep: a multi-year coating includes proper decontamination and (in our Correction & Coating tier) full paint correction first, so the ceramic locks in defect-free paint. Second, longevity: three to eight years versus months. Third, depth: a thicker ceramic refracts light cleaner, which is why coated cars look wetter and darker than freshly waxed ones.
