Melbourne window tinting

Window Tinting in Melbourne

Nano ceramic film fitted at our Cranbourne North studio. Heat and glare cut right down, UV blocked, and legal on Victorian roads.

What it is

One film family, chosen properly

We fit nano carbon ceramic tint and nothing else. No dyed film, no metallic film. Dyed tint is the cheap stuff that turns purple and bubbles inside a few summers, and it was never doing much for heat in the first place. Metallic film rejects heat but interferes with phone signal, GPS, tyre pressure sensors and keyless entry. Ceramic does the job without either problem.

The film comes in grades, and the difference between them is infrared rejection, which is the part of sunlight you actually feel as heat on your arm. S5 rejects up to 72%, S7 up to 81%, and S9 up to 93%. The grade decides how much heat stays outside the car, not how dark it looks.

Every film we fit is legal as standard: 35% VLT on the front side windows, 20% on the rear sides and rear screen. That is the Victorian limit, and a tint job darker than it fails a roadworthy no matter how good the film is.

Old tint that has gone purple, bubbled or started peeling is a roadworthy problem and an eyesore. We strip it, clean the adhesive off the glass, and fit fresh film. Removal starts from $150 depending on the age and quality of what is on there.

The detail

What window tinting actually does

Ceramic tint is not a shade of glass. It is a technical film doing four measurable jobs on the way through your windows.

Rejects infrared heat

Infrared is the heat you feel through the glass. Depending on the grade, our film rejects up to 93% of it, which is the difference between a cabin you can sit in and one you have to air out first.

Blocks 99.9% of UV

The same UV that burns skin is what fades your dash, cracks the top of the door cards and dries out leather. Ceramic film stops essentially all of it, front seat and back.

Zero signal interference

No metal in the film, so phone reception, GPS, tyre pressure sensors, keyless entry and toll tags all behave exactly as they did before.

Colour stable and hard wearing

Less than 1% fading rate, so it stays the shade it was fitted at instead of going purple. A scratch-resistant hardcoat handles seatbelts, loading and normal cleaning.

Who it suits

When tint earns its money

Heat, UV and a roadworthy are the three reasons people book it. Usually two of the three at once.

Cars that live outside

No garage at home or at work means the cabin bakes all day. Ceramic film is the single biggest change you can make to how a parked car feels when you get back in it.

Kids in the back

Rear passengers cop the most sun and can do the least about it. UV blocked at 99.9% and a big cut in glare on the back seat.

Failed or failing a roadworthy

Bubbled, purple or too-dark film is a fail. We strip the old tint, clean the glass and refit at the legal shade so it passes.

New car delivery

Factory privacy glass in the rear does almost nothing for heat and nothing at all for the front. Tint it before the first summer, not after.

Dark interiors and leather

Black dashes and leather take the worst of the UV. Blocking it is cheaper than reconditioning the interior later.

Anything you leave gear in

Rear tint makes it harder to see what is in the back. Worth it on utes, wagons and work vehicles.

FAQs

Window Tinting - FAQs

How dark can I legally tint my car in Victoria?

Front side windows have to let at least 35% of light through, and the rear sides and rear screen at least 20%.

What is nano ceramic tint and why only that?

It is a non-metallic film with ceramic particles that reject infrared heat. We only fit ceramic because the alternatives both have a catch. Dyed film is cheap, fades to purple and does little for heat. Metallic film works on heat but interferes with phone signal, GPS and sensors. Ceramic avoids both.

Will tint block my phone signal, GPS or tyre sensors?

No. There is no metal in the film, so reception, GPS, keyless entry, tyre pressure sensors and toll tags all work exactly as they did.

What is the difference between S5, S7 and S9?

Infrared rejection. S5 up to 72%, S7 up to 81%, S9 up to 93%. All three block 99.9% of UV and all three can be cut to the same legal shade, so the grade is about how much heat you keep out rather than how dark the car looks. Give us a call and we'll talk you through which one suits how you use the car.

How much does window tinting cost?

From $450, with the final figure depending on the vehicle and the film grade you go with. Stripping old film off first starts from $150 depending on its age and condition. Every car is quoted before we book it in.

Can you remove my old bubbling tint?

Yes. Old film that has gone purple, bubbled or started lifting gets stripped, the adhesive cleaned off the glass, and fresh film fitted. That's from $150 for the removal, and it is worth doing before a roadworthy rather than after a fail.

Will old tint fail a roadworthy?

It can, and often does. Bubbled or peeling film, film that has gone too dark with age, or anything darker than the legal limit will get picked up. If you've already been pulled up for it, we can strip it and refit legal film in one visit.

How long does it take and when can I use the windows?

Most cars are done in a day. Leave the windows up for three days after that while the film cures, and expect a light haze in the first few days that clears on its own.

Does ceramic tint fade?

Under 1% fading rate, so it holds the shade it was fitted at. Purple windows are dyed film breaking down, which is exactly the product we don't fit.
